Outstanding Performance in 2017 HKDSE

183 S6 students of our school sat the 2017 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examinations (HKDSE) and achieved remarkable results. The rates of attaining level 2 (pass rate) or above and level 4 (credit rate) or above were 98.4% and 50.6% respectively, which were higher than those of Hong Kong schools. The percentage of students attaining the minimum requirement for university admission (Core Subjects at 3322+2) was 69.9 %, which was also higher than that of Hong Kong schools (35.5%). Moreover, our students attained 15 Level 5** and 61 Level 5* in the subjects sat in the 2017 HKDSE. The best scorer, XIE Qihao, attained level 5** in 3 subjects and level 5* in 4 subjects. Interview with Principal NG from Ming Pao (Published on 24th May 2017)
In recent years, the Education Bureau has advocated the incorporation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Education into the formal curriculum as well as the co-curricular activities in secondary education. It has provided a range of resources to secondary schools in order to develop their school-based STEM curricula. As one of the leading schools in STEM education, we have developed innovative pedagogy with a distinctive STEM curriculum so as to nurture students' creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills.

On 4th May, our Science Panel shared its successful experiences in implementing STEM education in our junior secondary curriculum with teachers and educators from other secondary schools. Ming Pao, one of the leading newspapers in Hong Kong, also interviewed Principal Ng regarding our STEM education. Here is the news report from Ming Pao.

65th School Anniversary Celebration - Open Classrooms
In celebration of our school’s 65th Anniversary, the Academic Department hosted “Open Classrooms” to the public on 2 and 4 May 2017. Other than showcasing our teaching and learning quality, we take our professionalism a step further through professional exchange with teachers from other schools. The event was well-received with about 200 teachers attending. Our heartfelt thanks to the following panels for organizing the event.

Results of 2017 ICAS Assessment Programme
From 9th to 20th March 2017, 204 students from S1-S5 took the English Language assessment test of International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) held by the University of New South Wales. This is the fourteenth consecutive year that our school has taken part in the assessment programme and the results show that our students have been improving. This year, 2 students were awarded High Distinction, 13 awarded Distinction and 68 awarded Credit.

Moreover, 190 students from S1-S5 also sat the English Language Writing assessment and 116 junior form students were encouraged to sit the Mathematics and Science assessments. They were awarded 109 High Distinction, Distinction and Credit Certificates in total.

Among these students, MAN Wing of 5E has achieved High Distinction in both the English Language and English Language Writing assessments.

2017 Electrical Model Design Contest

On 7 May 2017, 1A Ruan Junhong,Ng Yui Lam, 1B Lui Tsz Fung Tobi, Wong Chun Lam participated in the "2017Electrical Model Design Contest" which is organized by the Hong KongInstitution of Engineers Electrical Division.

The aim of the competition isto promote electrical engineering and understanding on renewable energy amongstudents. Students have to show their creativity through design and create asolar –powered model car. They have to select, design and assemble allnecessary components such as solar panels, energy storage capacitors and motors.Students learnt not only the knowledge of solar energy, electricity andmechanics, but also the problem-solving skills.

The World Book Day Creative Competition 2017

In support of the World Book Day on 23 April, the Hong Kong Public Libraries  organised the "4‧23 World Book Day Creative Competition" with "Chinese Culture" as the theme. Kong Tsz Yan (1F) won the championship in the Junior Secondary Chinese group while Shi Erqi (4B) won the championship in the Senior Secondary Chinese group. Lam Yiu Leung (4B) won the championship in the Senior Secondary Chinese group and Sze Kai Tik (5B) won the championship in the Senior Secondary Chinese group. Roving exhibitions of the winning entries will be held at Hong Kong public libraries.

 
FIRST LEGO League 2017

The LEGO Club members of our school participated in the FIRST LEGO League 2017 this year. In the 2017 animal allies challenge, our students made use of their incredible creativity to design fabulous robots and programs to achieve 15 missions such as shark shipment and animal conservation. They also needed to discover and present how to make use of robot technology to help feed animals in order to enhance the interaction between humans and animals. Our students received the merit award. They were Jack Tao (1F), Alvin Chan(2C), Kenny Poon(2C), Daven Wu(2C), Frankie Yeung(2E),Bosco Wong(2F), Anson Wong(3A), Ian Li(3B) and Thomas Lai(3D).

 
2016-2017 National Youth Chinese Knowledge Contest Writing Competition

Our students took part in the 2016-2017 National Youth Chinese Knowledge Writing Competition, which was organized by the Chinese Youth Language and Culture Society.  In this writing competition, ZHANG YAXI (2F) was the champion in the  Junior Section, while CHAO WEI WEI (2F), KWAN WING LAM (2F) and PAU SIN YU (2F) attained Merit in the Junior Section. PAN YONGWEN(4A) and SHI YULIN (4A) attained Merit in the Section.


 
Results of 69th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival

The results of the 69th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival were outstanding. We achieved 2 Champions in Piano and Zheng solo , 1 First Runner-up in Trombone solo, 2 Second Runners-up in Piano and Vocal solo .We received a Merit award in Chinese Instrumental Ensemble . We are grateful to the efforts made by teachers and students.
